While booking a movie ticket at BookMyShow, you would have come across the below snapshot with ‘Onyx Diner’ written:
What exactly is it then? What is its meaning, what are its features, ticket price, etc.? Here are all the details.
INOX Onyx Diner Meaning and Features
The concept of Onyx Diner has two primary offerings – picture quality and dining.
The movies here are powered by LED Screens developed by Samsung. This is different from a traditional movie-watching experience where a projector is used. What is the advantage of the LED screen? Well, the primary advantage of this technology is that the screen is backlit which results in higher brightness levels (10 times higher than projection systems, as claimed by Samsung). The picture quality is taken to the next level with HDR; it is more detailed, rich visually, and textured. The core thought behind this technology was to make the characters and scenes feel real as if the viewers are a part of the ongoing movie scenes.
Kindly note that INOX Onyx Diner and PVR Onyx both are powered by the same technology. Hence, there isn’t much difference between the two except the fact the former has dining options too!
Secondly, INOX’s ONYX Diner is claimed to be India’s first multiplex that also has an elaborate buffet spread. Food is also served on your seat directly from the kitchen. Since ambient light doesn’t affect the visuals on-screen, one can enjoy food while watching the movie.
It is claimed that the seating position doesn’t matter as much in this format. Also, the surround sound is powered by JBL by Harman International giving the best audio-visual experience from any seat in the cinema hall.
Here is a video for a visual representation of some of these features:
What is the total seating capacity in INOX Onyx Diner?
The seating capacity is anywhere between 250 and 350, spread across 10-12 rows. There are primarily 3 sections – Royal, Club and Executive, with the format being the farthest from the screen.
What is the cost of a ticket?
A ticket costs between ₹300 to ₹360, depending on the time of the show and the seat you opt for. All in all, slightly higher priced than the regular tickets.
Is food included in this?
No, you will have to pay an additional sum for any food items you choose from the menu.
What is the difference between INOX Insignia and INOX Onyx Diner?
The primary difference is in the underlying technology. Insignia is marketed as an uber-luxurious offering which is not the case with Onyx Diner. The ticket price is higher at Insignia (2-4 times).
How many ONYX Diner screens are there in India?
As of today, there is only one in India. It is at INOX Megaplex in Malad West locality of Mumbai.
