You may have come across the below icon while booking tickets on BookMyShow.
It is rare, very rare to come across this during your ticket booking journey. Why? Firstly, Playhouse is only available at PVR (not all PVRs though). Secondly, and most importantly, not all movies are played at Playhouse theatres.
Let us understand in more detail the meaning of Playhouse, its features, seating capacity, pricing, etc. Here we go.
What is the meaning of PVR Playhouse?
As the name suggests, Playhouse is a cinema hall (house) that is designed to provide a playful (play) movie-going experience. You would have guessed by now that this cinema hall is especially for children and screens movies that are suited for them. See the below video once to get an understanding of how the overall atmosphere is at PVR Playhouse:
What are the features of Playhouse?
Everything in the Playhouse is designed keeping kids in mind. Most of the theatre is full of bright colours, be it walls, chairs, flooring, etc. Some cinema halls are also equipped with slides to delight the kids. There are also play area and colourful blocks to entertain the kids. In most Playhouses, the chairs are designed to accommodate both, the kid and an adult.
The cafeteria also has menu designed keeping kids in mind. The PVR Playhouse can also be used for organising birthday parties and events.

A quick check on BookMyShow shows that the total seating capacity is anywhere between 100 and 120. The Playhouse at PVR Icon Oberoi is divided into three section – Classic, Prime and Recliner. Classic is the nearest to the screen and Recliner is the farthest.
What is the cost of ticket?
The cost of tickets at Playhouse is within a normal range, i.e. the price starts at ₹200 (Classic) and goes up to ₹500 for the seats farthest from the screen.
How many Playhouse theatres are there in India?
Playhouse theatres are present in all major cities in India, including Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad and more.
PVR’s Playhouse is a unique setup where a whole family can enjoy watching a kids-friendly movie. You may not get a 4D experience like an MX4D or 4DX or bigger, wider screens like PXL, or an extremely superior sound and picture quality but an atmosphere where they can have fun and roam around without getting bored.
Before kids actually start watching mainstream movies, it may be good to bring them at Playhouse to see how they respond to sitting still for 1.5-2 hours. Even if they can’t be patient enough, they can entertain themselves in the play area.
