RRR or Rise Roar Revolt movie has everything to offer – history, action, drama, breathtaking shots, brilliant cinematography with a backdrop of mythology. In short, the movie is worth every penny you spend to watch.
SS Rajamouli, the director of RRR movie has said this numerous times that he is a big fan of Ramayana and Mahabharata, two major epics of Indian history. It has been observed that he tries to incorporate many of such instances and incidences in his movies. Taking Rajamouli’s few movies as an example – Eega (Makkhi) and Bahubali series had a backdrop of freedom from evil and tyrannical people, somewhat similar to Ramayana. There are numerous other movie examples. Talking about RRR movie, there are 5 instances where a specific plot or characters of RRR can be compared to that of Ramayana.
RRR’s Plot or Characters Similar to Ramayana
What of I told you that Ram Charan’s look as Lord Ram is not the only thing similar to Ramayana. If you haven’t watched the movie – please watch. If you still haven’t watched the movie, please don’t read this article. There are going to be a lot of spoilers ahead.
Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR) is Hanuman
Hanuman, on the advise of Lord Ram visits Sita all the way to Lanka to inquire about her well being. He also takes the ring given by Ram. Jr NTR takes a sacred thread from Alia Bhatt (Sita as her character name goes by) and goes on a rescue mission to free Ram Charan (Rama Raju, his character name). The only difference being, unlike Hanuman, NTR goes a step further and frees Ram Charan. Although there is a little change difference between Ramayana and RRR movie where Sita is at Ram’s place and Ram is at Sita’s place. But more importantly, the message is conveyed crystal clear that Jr NTR has resemblance to Hanuman – the savior.
Ram Charan (Rama Raju) is in Vanavasa (As a Police Officer)
Ram Charan’s friend in the movie who is also a police officer tells him why he should not go on a mission to save Jr NTR (Korram Bheem) as it has taken 15 years of hard work to reach the ranks of special officer and more importantly in-charge of ammunition shed. After Ram Charan’s mission is complete, he returns to his village. Below are the striking similarities and justifies as to why Ram Charan is Lord Ram in RRR movie:
1. Isn’t Ram Charan’s 15 years in service as a police officer similar to Lord Ram’s 14 years of Vanavasa where both stayed away from their family?
2. Ram Charan’s stay in exile and facing hardships is akin to Lord Ram’s stay in exile for 14 years.
3. People from Ram Charan’s village and people from Ayodhya burst into celebration when their respective heroes return.
Scott is Ravana and Ram Charan Kills Scott
Lord Rama kills Ravana at the end, freeing Sita from the evil. Similarly, Ram Charan kills Scott which years later, in someway or the other helped India gain its independence.
Jr NTR (Korram Bheem) is Hanuman 2.0
Korram Bheem, disguised as Akhtar, visits the governor’s house as Jennifer’s friend, roams around and learns everything in detail. Bheem later ransacks the entire palace or Governor’s house, brings people to the ground and burns everything to ashes. Sounds similar to Hanuman’s burning of Lanka? TOTALLY RIGHT.
Jennifer’s help to Korram Bheem
Although shown for a few seconds, Jennifer or Jeni (key member of the British family) did help Korram Bheem to barge into the cell where Ram Charan was kept. Yes, it is just like Vibhishana, an important member from the Ravana family helping out Rama to succeed his mission.
We know that events shown in RRR movie are debatable and their actual occurrences are topic of argument for some other day. This article is only a resemblance of SS Rajamouli’s way of story telling and projection of RRR movie to people via legends, tales and folklore.
